Halloween is a great season to celebrate with easy preschool crafts your kids will love. Many of these crafts only take a few minutes to complete and can be done with the supplies that you already have around the house. Plus, some of these Halloween projects can easily double as Halloween decorations for around the house.
Here are some of our favorite preschool craft ideas for Halloween to do at home or in the classroom.
1) Spider Web Art With Painter’s Tape
One classic Halloween craft is to make spider web art using painter’s tape or liquid white glue. You use the tape or glue to make a spider web on a white piece of paper. If you use glue, you will first need to wait until the glue has dried before taking any additional steps. Next, children can paint or color the paper on top of the painters tape. Once dried, you can remove the tape to reveal the spider web. If you use glue, the raised glue will be a contrasting color for the spider web.
2) Halloween Puppets With Jumbo Craft Sticks
It is easy to make colorful Halloween-inspired puppets using jumbo craft sticks. You can have children color with markers or paint images of mummies, monsters, and ghosts onto the craft sticks and add googly eyes. You can also cut out images or drawings of Halloween characters and glue the characters to the craft sticks. You can even use Halloween-themed clip art to print on cardstock and glue directly to your popsicle sticks. If you can find some that match characters in a book you plan to read to them, the kids can use the puppets to act out the story with each other. We recommend using hot glue to attach the puppets for added durability.
3) Fingerprint Spiders With Googly Eyes
A very simple Halloween craft for preschoolers is to use a stamp pad to add fingerprints to a piece of paper. You can then have them draw spider legs around each fingerprint and add two or more googly eyes per “spider.” It’s a fun and quick way to enjoy a hands-on craft with very few materials needed.
4) Yarn Pumpkins With Pipe Cleaner Stems
You can use orange yarn and green and/or brown pipe cleaners to create little pumpkins. Start by rolling the orange yarn tightly into a ball either around itself or around a small cardboard circle. Keep tightly adding yarn until you have a full “pumpkin” shape. You can glue the end into the existing yarn or tuck it in between the other layers. You can use pipe cleaners to form a stem and leaves for your pumpkin.
5) Toilet Paper Roll Bats
You can make these cute toilet paper roll bats with three simple supplies: clean toilet paper tubes, black paper, and googly eyes. You can have kids make simple bat wings that they can cut out and glue to the toilet paper tube and add googly eyes or eye stickers. This craft is excellent for making your own, as you can make it as complex or easy as you want to. You can have students paint, use markers, or glue paper to the actual toilet paper tube.
6) Owls Made From Cupcake Liners
If you happen to have a variety of cupcake liners around, you can use different colors and sizes to make adorable owls that you glue onto paper. Mini cupcake liners can be used for the eyes. Use larger cupcake liners for the head and body. Then cut large cupcake liners in half to use for the wings. If desired, kids can draw on feet, talons, pupils, and a beak onto the paper when they’re finished gluing.
7) Milk Jug Jack-o-Lantern Lanterns
When it comes to making bigger Halloween decorations for the classroom or at home, consider making fun jack-o-lantern lanterns from recycled milk jugs. Gallon bottles work best for this project. Thoroughly wash and dry each milk jug, being careful to remove any stickers or labels from the container. Use a black permanent marker to draw jack-o-lantern faces on each bottle. Then, you can slip a glow stick into each one. A row of these cute milk jug jack-o-lantern lanterns is an adorable way to decorate.
8) Beaded Pumpkin Bracelets With Pipe Cleaners
With some orange beads and some pipe cleaners, you can make beaded pumpkin bracelets. For preschoolers, this activity works on fine motor skills, which is an important precursor to writing. You want to give young children the opportunity to practice picking up beads and lacing them onto the pipe cleaner. Compared to string, it is much easier for kids to hold and lace bead onto the pipe cleaner.
9) Halloween-inspired Slime
Slime is always a popular thing to make with young children. Mixing it up is similar to a chemistry experiment and the end result is a great sensory activity. You can make slime in Halloween colors and add glitter. You can also add googly eyes directly into the slime for an eerie version of slime kids will both love and think is gross.
10) Paper Spiderweb “Snow Flakes”
Do you remember those paper snow flakes you can make by folding a piece of white paper, cutting out sections, and opening up the paper again? Using black construction paper, you can do the same process to make black spider webs. What a fun way to encourage preschool age kids to work on their scissor skills.
11) Stained Glass Pumpkins
Using tissue paper and clear contact paper, you can make “stained glass” pumpkins by having kids tear up pieces of orange tissue paper and sticking it onto the clear contact paper. You can then cut out pumpkin shapes. These make neat decorations to put on windows with a simple piece of tape. If you use green or brown ribbon, you can use a hole punch to add a way to hang the pumpkin up.
